Richmond enjoy a temperate west coast climate like most of the cities in Metro Vancouver region. Summers are usually mild to warm, and unlike other parts of Canada, Richmond gets little or no snow during winters. Richmond experience an average annual rainfall of 111cm/44in, 30% less than Vancouver’s. It is advised that visitors go with the layered look, so that they can add or remove layers as needed because weather conditions can change quickly.

Richmond maintains its competitive business environment by strategically focusing on Richmond’s business and employment base. Currently, Richmond is popular as a leading centre in the region for high-technology companies including Norsat and Sierra Wireless. Agriculture is also one of the leading industries in the city, out of 4,916 hectares of farmland, 3,012 hectares were used to grow crops, mainly cranberries and blueberries. Shopping malls also boost the economy of Richmond and serves as a tourist spot to many visitors coming to the city. Most of these Chinese-oriented malls are located along No. 3 Road from Alderbridge Way to Capstan Way, commonly known as the “Golden Village”. Other key sectors that brought jobs and economic opportunities includes airport services and aviation, services, retailing, tourism, light manufacturing and fishing.
Recreation Options In Richmond
To improve the quality of life and to create a healthy active community, Richmond offers unparalleled access to recreational programs and services through several modern facilities and recreational places located within the city. Richmond has 145 parks that provides sports and recreation amenities in every neighbourhood. The city also has a 73 kilometres of trails and 60 kilometres of bike lanes that are perfect to enjoy hiking and biking. Richmond Aquatic Services provides facilities that includes two indoor pools and two outdoor seasonal pools. Richmond Arena Services operates both Minoru Arena and Richmond Ice Centre which both offer ice, dry floor and boardroom rentals. Furthermore, several community centres are located within the city to provide space for meetings, birthday parties, events and more.
